About the Border Guards Refuse Handshake meme template
This is one of the most quietly devastating photos of 1989: the Berlin Wall has just opened, an ordinary Berliner is leaning across the border fence with his hand out, and the two young East German guards just... don't take it. No smile, no handshake, just history staring back at you awkwardly.
It's become the internet's go-to image for any moment someone offers something — a hand, an apology, a high five — and gets stonewalled cold. Use it for the friend who left you on read, the coworker who ignored your fist bump, or literally any situation where someone extends themselves and gets nothing back.
