About the First Time Hanging Man meme template
Setup goes in the caption, punchline is the template itself — that's the core joke structure of the First Time format. You describe an audience experiencing something emotionally devastating or absurd, and the image delivers the dry, deadpan response to their distress.
It works best when the situation you describe is genuinely over-the-top: a beloved character meeting a horrifying fate, a game ending on an emotionally gutting note, any moment that leaves a fanbase wrecked. The more specific and committed the caption, the harder the punchline lands. Vague captions fall flat; lean into the specific fandom moment.
To write a strong caption, name the audience and their exact predicament clearly before the template does its work. Pair a niche reference with an outsized emotional reaction for the best effect. Caption and download your version free here.
