# Memeboat

> Memeboat (memebo.at) is a free meme generator with 25,000+ meme templates: pick a template, write the captions in the browser and download or share the meme. No sign-up; memes are made anonymously. Template pictures carry the Memeboat mark. Memeboat also has a public JSON API and an AI connector (an MCP server), so code and AI assistants can search templates and make memes.

## API

JSON over HTTPS, no API key. Requests are rate-limited per IP address.

- [Search templates](https://memebo.at/api/templates?search=drake&limit=5): `GET /api/templates?search=<words>&limit=<1-50>&page=<n>` (search text at most 100 characters; a longer one answers 400) returns `templates` (best match first: exact name, then other names, then names that start with or contain the words) and `pagination`.
- [One template](https://memebo.at/api/templates/drake-hotline-bling): `GET /api/templates/<slug>` returns its name, picture, size and caption boxes.
- Make a meme: `POST /api/memes/create` with a JSON body such as `{"template":"drake-hotline-bling","texts":["Writing the meme by hand","Asking the Memeboat API"]}` (captions top to bottom; optional `font`, `layout` "default" or "top", and per-caption `{text, color, outline, font}`). It answers 201 with `data.pageUrl` (the meme page) and `data.imageUrl` (the picture).
